Description
Captain Emilio Carranza Rodríguez (December 9, 1905 – July 12, 1928), was a Mexican aviator and national hero, nicknamed the “Lindbergh of Mexico”. He died on the return part of a historic goodwill flight from Mexico City to the United States. He crashed in New Jersey shortly after take-off from New York.
This photo is a one off – my grandfather took this when he was in the US Army air corps at Mitchell field in NJ. On the back side of the photo it states “Carranza’s plane before his fatal hop.” This was in my grandfather’s personal possessions when he passed away in 1971.
